PC Related Stuff/Questions / Re: Help! Looking for a good graphics card!

I would recommend a Radeon 4890 ! (  This is the first ATI card I've owned and I'm very happy with it.

Here is a good article that rates common Nvidia and ATI gpus against each other at various resolutions in games.  If you have a game you play specifically I'd try to find it by browsing through the pages.  (

I would not go with a 5770 for that price because the 4890 rates better in most benchmarks and costs about the same amount, unless DX11 capability is incredibly important to you.  The 4890 will not do DX11.

The price is hard to pass up IMO because it performs just a step below the GTX 285 (~$380 and is on par with the GTX 275 (~$250

Good luck!

I don't know all the steps you went through to get where you are, but if your Hard Drive is showing 38% memory free . . .

You might try searching with windows for .bmp files or .jpgs or something along those lines.  If it finds your pictures go to properties and look at the location it has for those (something like C:\mydocuments\pictures\...    probably)  try and to cut and paste those to an external hard drive or save them online to norton or something.

If have all the files you need saved elsewhere, I would do a format and reinstall, it will probably be less work than the next thing I mention.  From what you described it seems you got windows working again but your system registry doesn't recognize whats installed so the links when you click on them in the start menu or desktop will not work.  Sometimes you can relink them if you go to properties (right link on the program shortcut you want to run) and it'll say something like target or location and type in the correct location if you can find where its located on the hard drive from browsing in the windows explorer.

I hope that makes sense, its been a while since I've used XP... good luck, I'll check back later!

1500 watts?!!! wtf dude?! do you have a flux capacitor in there?!

I had a 1000watt on my SLI setup of two 8800GTXs.  It failed after about 1.5-2 years.  Thats when I figured out that all power supplies are not created equal ...

I would want at least 1200 watts if I had 3 power hungry gpus on one mobo.  The extra 300 is so I can sleep at night and know all is well

Looks awesome, but I'm waiting until this is out for a while and kicking.  I had an SLI setup that I had too many problems with and that was two of the same cards  :P
Although I think i would need a like a 1500 watt power supply for this to work with three gpus, which would be crazy  :what:

Thank you!

I used to use Orthos to test stability and did a few others here and there but I found that if your CPU supports it the IntelBurnTest is a beast.  It used to take an hour or more for my temps to approach what they do while stressing with IntelBurnTest within 5 minutes.

The best I can tell (I just got the 4890 not too long ago so I'm not used to the catalyst control center :argh: ) it has an autotune function, but nothing to let you monitor temps in the background while you're in game or something with a logger which is what I'm interested in

Interesting post @ I do use AS5, I've never put a lot of thought into the thermal grease.  I did lap my CPU to try and obtain better heat transfer to my tuniq, it helped but didn't have very drastic improvements (not 19C @ least).  I find it hard to compare posts like that because you never know that all the test circumstances in both cases were the same.  Down the road I might have to look into that though ;)

Ever had any experience with Everest ?

PC Related Stuff/Questions / Overclocking and Temp monitoring software

Hey guys,

For any overclockers in the clan, what software do you use to test for stability and monitor temps.

I use IntelBurnTest to test for stability (

and I've been using RealTemp to monitor temps on my CPU (

I would like to monitor the temperature of my GPU a lot closer but have yet to find an adequate program to do so... any recommendations?
I have an ATI 4890

As a disclaimer, don't overclock unless you know what you're doing and are prepared for the consequences.

I know, who in the world likes to read!  :argh:

I didn't know where to put this so this seemed like the best area...

Any good series of books out there that you would recommend reading?

I've read most of the following if the series has been completed, some are still on going.  Some of these are mature books, I wouldn't recommend reading a few of these series if you aren't of age :P

Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind
Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin
Dune series by Frank Herbert
I've read most of R. A. Salvatore's Drizzt books and the Cleric Quintet
I've also read most of the Star Wars books that occur after Return of the Jedi and some before...

Thats all I can think of right now that I've read and enjoyed, if you have any recommendations please post them.  I'm looking for a good series to read!
