PC Related Stuff/Questions / My new build. Video Card ideas ?
« on: August 19, 2011, 03:13:18 pm »
So, it's been about 2 1/2 years, which means it was time for an upgrade.

In a nutshell, without posting links, here is what I have.

Corsair 750W PSU
8GB G. Skill Ripjaws Series X Ram
Rosewill Challenger Gaming Case
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban Processor
Asus AM3 Evo Motherboard
500GB 7200 RPM Seagate HDD
And or course a ridiculous $50 Zalman CPU Fan.

As far as the video card goes, I am still holding onto my Radeon HD 4850 Sapphire 512MB card.

I am waiting for the right time to buy a new one, I preferably want to get one around the time when Battlefield 3 comes out (October 25th).

My range is around $200, I just need it to play games on HIGH settings for at least 1 to 1/2 years. It's been so long since I've gotten a card that I am out of the game (no pun intended) when shopping for a new one.

Any Ideas ?

I need this game now. I am counting down the days.

Sad news, it won't be on STEAM at all. Apparently EA and Steam had a big fall out and now we have to buy it and play it through EA's Origin System.

PK, I will end you. Shut up.

True Blood had an epic 1st season, an iffy 2nd season and a ridiculous 3rd season.

It's so predictable and ludicroius I don't even care anymore. The more kinds of monsters or whatever they introduce the less interesting it gets.

Who's going to buy the new Medal of Honor on Tuesday ? I'm not sure. It is $60 which sucks but it looks to take the best parts of BFBC2 and MW2.

I just want to see who else has played it or enjoyed it.

Neo mentioned it in his second post about the movie getting terrible reviews. Whether that was sarcasm or not I took it literally.

I did flop around a bit on where my frustration about the topic was and that was my mistake. I just didn't understand Ghostlys hatred for critics. I think they should be respected for what they do and their opinions are just as valuable as everyone else's is. They are good at what they do and MOST people tend to listen to them if they aren't entirely sold on a movie. The same goes for me, if I am not entirely sold on a film then I won't go see it unless it receives universal critical acclaim.

I understand your take on it Drizz. I see that you and I also have different opinions on this matter and that's fine. I just wanted people to not be bashing critics for no reason (Ghostly) because they didn't enjoy Men On Men 4.

Moving on.

Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending to a fantastic trilogy. I would put it down as one of the best trilogies ever made. The ending damn near brought me to tears and it was the most fun I've had at the cinema this year.

It makes sense to me Drizz. It always has.

The reason why we have critics in the first place is they give us the impression that they know whats best for us. Why do these guys get paid so much to give their own opinion to a movie ? Well they break a movie down and grade each individual part of the story, visuals, and direction. Some do this better than others. Don't get me wrong, there are some awful critics out there and I probably agree with critics around 70% of the time. Even if a movie is awful (Transformers 2) it's because the critic reviews it on it's story, visuals, and direction. They all agreed it looked great but the story lacks as well the direction does.

These people know 100X more about movies than any of us do. They know so much that they get paid to tell us whether its good or not. For example I generally don't see a movie with a rating below 30% on Rotten Tomatoes or below a 6.0 on IMDB because the majority agrees they are not good cinema.

I watch more movies than most people know and I respect critics for the fact that they know what to look for in a film. If there is great talent squandered or if the script falls flat. The point is, PIXAR has established a name in cinema that's equivalent to perfection. There are only 3 bad reviews on RT and one is from the worst critic to live..Armond White.

I initially got upset about this topic because there are hardly any bad reviews on this movie and it will undoubtedly get a Best Picture Nomination next year as well. I can enjoy bad movies too, I like many campy movies but thats because I take them for what they are and I don't dig to deep into them. Sometimes because of the director or actors or the source material of the film I will see it regardless of how bad the critics say it is.

People listen to critics when buying a car, food, electronics, you name it and people have reviewed it. It's insanely rare someone will purchase something or watch something without prior knowledge to it. These critics and reviewers are the prior knowledge and they are an expert at what they do.

If you also look at the "Community" respect of the rating System you'd see that it's at the 88% mark.

My point is, if people see a movie and it has bad reviews, and they don't enjoy it..the critics told you so.

To sum it up. Ghostly obviously has a hate for critics because they gave his poor Tranny's 2 a 20% rating.

I'm not quite sure why people don't listen to critics. They warn us before hand if a movie will be good or bad. Rottentomatoes does a great job of this by combining every review possible to one overall score.

If we had listened to critics we wouldn't have had to see such trash as Transformers 2, Land of the Lost, Jonah Hex, Robin Hood, and Clash of the Titans.

Generally if a movie is well reviewed it's liked by damn near everyone! That's how it goes. Well reviewed movies when Oscars too, thus certifying them as a good movie. If it wasn't for critics, we wouldn't know what's good and what's not. Sometimes we may disagree with them but they are out there reviewing movies for our sake to save us that $8 that would be lost at Transformers 2 all over again.
