damned squats
« on: January 13, 2010, 09:59:50 am »
more of a whine... but... started a new workout yesterday..... omfg my neck is killing me from squats.  My upper body is way too tight, gotta wok on flexibility, I can't get the bar in the right position and this f'ing hurts.

Do you use a shoulder pad or towel on your neck when you do squats?  I know that bar is painful as hell doing it without them.

yea, I'm doing it without a pad.... my main problem is that I'm not limber enough to put the bar down on my traps enough like I'm supposed to.... it's kinda resting on my spine, which is bad.  I've been doing shoulder dislocations for a few days, like in this video... it will take a while though, my chest/shoulders are really tight.

Shoulder Dislocations

I blame machines, I'm not ever using them again for anything.

Maybe you should start out with a Pilates tape. Do you have large balls around?

if it hurts that bad then you need to lessen the weight and built up your strength slowly..using more weight when it hurts will only inhibit you and you'll never get anywhere..more weight does not equal more manliness lol :uhuh:

Well use a towel next time you squat and start off with low weights and work your way up, also roll your neck and stretch before starting.  How much do you squat btw?

yea, believe me I'm doing very light weights (like embarrassing light weights).... I haven't been doing free weights, I need to get nerve and muscle memory down for the proper motion before lifting anything heavy.

I seriously have a mobility problem in my shoulders, I talked to a trainer last night, once he saw what I was talking about he was surprised..... now I gotta stretch for the next month or more until I can do this right.

lemme know how it works out..what you're doing..my shoulders have always been a huge problem for me..and with all the damage to my neck and outer shoulders (rotator cuff), I'm set up to fail in that area forever (soooo sick of it)..I need a solution..besides transplanting my head on some healthy chicks body...that's a last resort.

I think I'm going to try some yoga.... maybe... If you have damage to your neck, I would have no idea if any of this is a good idea for you.
