Project: 97 EK LS/VTEC Hatchback.
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:54:11 pm »
I started this build back in August when I bought a 97 hatchback with a blown B18B1 out of an Acura Integra.

I decided to build a N/A LS/VTEC for it.   For those of you that dont know what an LS/VTEC is....Its a Non-VTEC block out of an Acura Integra LS with a VTEC head.    Frankenstein.

I went with the B18A1 block and the B16A2 head out of a 00' Civic SI.

Heres where I started.

After I pulled the blown motor I decided to pull it apart and have a look.

Spun bearings from over revving it and one lucky piston was slamming into the valves, which of course bent them.

As you can see...Some tasty melted bearing in the oil pan.

After I pulled the blown B1 apart I moved onto the front end of the car.

The car had obviously hit somthing because the front core support was all bent to shit and it made the front end sit all jacked up.

So I tackled that, A really bad rust spot on the passenger side where the fender bolts to and painted the engine bay.

After paint was done...I started building the motor about a week later.

Build for high compression 12.0 CR, running on 94 octane.

I used high compression B16 (P30) pistons, LS Rods, clevite main and rod bearings, Arp rod bolts and head studs, RC 310cc Injectors, Skunk2 Intake Manifold, Blox 66mm throttlebody, supertech dual valve springs and retainers, port and polish and 3 angle valve job, Mugen 2 layer head gasket etc etc etc etc......

I forgot to take alot of pictures I wanted to while actully assembeling the motor, But heres the ones I did manage to take.

Very nice!

Much better than the kids around here who throw an imitation intake air filter and exhaust tip on their car and think they're hot shit.

I used to have a 97 EX VTEC.  Loved that car.  Makes me miss my imitation intake air filter and exhaust tip, lol

Pretty kickass dude. When you get it up and running, throw a video of it up on youtube so we can hear that bad boy.

Those were meant to be separate statements.  The first one cause I like to hear the engine on a car, and see how they run/drive.  The second one cause you and Infern0 are both really into cars.

Just so you guys know...This project was started back in August '08.   The car has already been running and broke in but I currently have the head back off...But we'll get to what led up to all that later.

Ok so from where I left off....I converted the OBD2A wiring harness in the car to OBD1 so I could run Hondata.

I chose a P72 ECU out of an acura integra GSR as my computer for the car.

I installed the Hondata s300 myself into the P72 with a pace de-soldering station.

At this point I started ripping the interior apart and installed my oil pressure and wideband oxygen sensor gauge.
