Greatest War Movie Ever
« on: January 06, 2009, 11:18:53 am »
I know this sounds like cheating a little bit but,

Band of Brothers.

Not really a movie but the best made war scenes ever put on screen. Such epicness, but If I had to actually choose a real movie....its between

Black Hawk Down and Platoon

What do you guys think? Maybe there are a few I don't know of.

Black Hawk Down and Platoon

Black Hawk Down was good... Only seen MOST of Platoon, and I didn't think it was bad, but meh.

What do you guys think? Maybe there are a few I don't know of.

I am quite partial to the following:

Enemy at the Gates
Behind Enemy Lines [1] (not sure about the second one)

The only thing that salvaged what was left of my CoD:WaW views was when they had the sniping in Stalingrad level.  That level seemed as if it was taken RIGHT out of Enemy at the Gates and I almost shit myself with enjoyment.

Saving Private Ryan owns all of those series/movies. In fact Band of Brothers is based on it...

All Quiet on the Western Front, To Hell and Back, and The Longest Day also are in a class of their own.

What are you talking about? Saving Private Ryan is about the 2nd Ranger Battalion where as Band of Brothers is about Easy Company of the 506th PIR 101st Airborne (based on the book Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose). Spielberg directed Saving Private Ryan and it starred Tom Hanks, Band of Brothers they were both just producers. Jeez PK GETCHA FACTS STRAIGHT! Also as far as movies go Saving Private Ryan totally beats all those MOVIES but Band of Brothers was better IMO. Spielberg and Hanks are making a new series called The Pacific (about the Pacific war) based on two novels by former Marines who served there (Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie)

We're talking about best battles, and Band of Brothers has the same realistic battles as Ryan since it had close to the same production values, so yes it was based in the same criteria...Story is different obviously, but quality and camera work was based on Saving Private Ryan.

You said it was based on it like you meant the plot. Come on PK I was right and you were wrong for once let me have my victory! Also they don't have the same battles. Saving Private Ryan only spans through like D plus 2 I think.

Oh and Pat.... PLATOON?! Go watch Apocalypse Now! and The Deer Hunter. As far as Vietnam movies go they shit all over Platoon. Full Metal Jacket was better as well IMO (although overrated if you ask me)

Wrong buddy, they both have to do with the 101st Airborne Division, so I win. Saving Private Ryan is a bunch of Rangers looking for a lost member of the 101st Airborne Division. Band of Brothers is a detailed and in-depth look at the 101st Airborne Division, more specifically Easy Company.

Apocalypse Now is very overrated. :P

Yes but the 101st is only featured in a tiny part of Saving Private Ryan. By the way you didn't mention that Private Ryan is in the same regiment as Easy Company was (506th PIR). As for what you said about my beloved Martin Sheen and Apocalypse Now......... DIE. YOU CAN NOT BEAT A MOVIE DIRECTED BY FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA AND STARRING MARTIN SHEEN AND MARLON BRANDO! DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!

Catch-22 is one of my favorite books/movies of all time. Speaking of black comedy war movies how did we forget M*A*S*H? Oh and Sahara starring.... MY COUSIN!

Ever since it was release, Band of Brothers has been the best war move/series ever. EVER. There is no competition.

Band of Brothers.  Nothing gets close to it.  Flags of Our Fathers was pretty good though.
